Dr. Deborah L. Swackhamer is a Professor Emerita of Science, Technology, and Public Policy in the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, and the former director of the University of Minnesota’s Water Resources Center.

We welcome Dr. Deb Swackhamer back to the Humphrey School to kick off our 2018 STEP Seminar season!

Dr. Deborah L. Swackhamer is a Professor Emerita of Science, Technology, and Public Policy in the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, and the former director of the University of Minnesota’s Water Resources Center. Swackhamer was named Charles M. Denny Jr. Chair in Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy in 2009. She served on the Minnesota Clean Water Council and was a member of the US EPA Science Advisory Board, serving as chair for four years. She was a member of the board of directors, National Institutes of Water Resources (NIWR) for six years, and served as president from 2010–2011.

A Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, she received the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Founders Award for lifetime achievement in the environmental sciences in 2009 and was named an Inaugural SETAC Fellow in 2014. Currently, Swackhamer serves on National Academy of Science standing Board of Environmental Science and Toxicology.
