MARGARET CHUTICH NAMED ASSISTANT DEAN OF THE Humphrey School

Margaret ChutichThe Humphrey School of Public Affairs has named Margaret Chutich assistant dean of the college. She will be responsible for advancing the Institute’s strategic goals and mission while promoting student and community life through the Office of Student Experience. Chutich will begin September 22, 2008.

“The Humphrey School brings the University’s land-grant mission of public engagement and outreach to life through teaching, research, and public programming. And our students benefit from the interdisciplinary approach of our faculty members and research centers,” said Humphrey School Dean J. Brian Atwood. “Margaret Chutich will have the important task of advancing our tri-fold mission and strong curriculum while engaging the Humphrey School community and our friends along the way.”

Chutich will join the Humphrey School after a long tenure at the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General where she worked in various capacities, including time as deputy attorney general of law enforcement (1996–1998) and as assistant attorney general (1999–2008, 1992–1994) in the criminal and human services divisions. She also worked as an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Minnesota from 1994 to 1996.

“I’m excited and gratified to become part of the Humphrey School, a community dedicated to the compelling mission of advancing the common good in a diverse world,” said Chutich. “I have a keen interest in the public policy areas emphasized by the Institute and am thrilled to be associated with a top-notch school that is training future world leaders in these critical areas.”

Chutich graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Minnesota. During her undergraduate years, she studied Croatian at the University of Zagreb in Yugoslavia. She is a member of the Hennepin County and Minnesota State Bar Associations. She also is a lifetime member of the University of Minnesota’s Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Committee.
