Mentor corner
|
| Thank you to the domestic and global mentors for another fine year! There were 67 mentor–student pairs in the domestic policy program this year and 24 mentors and 16 students enrolled in the global policy mentor program. We brought in new technology by incorporating a classroom feature called WebVista CT so that students and mentors could have threaded online discussions, and the global program included monthly presentations by local mentors, as well as collaboration with the mentor program at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.
Improvements to the domestic mentor program already are underway for next year. A “mentor blog” will replace WebVista CT to make online interaction faster and easier for alumni and students alike. Based on feedback from students and mentors, the program will run concurrent with the academic year. Kick-offs begin in early October to allow more time for mentor–student to develop fruitful relationships. Similarly, a plan to better integrate the global mentor program into the global policy area at the Institute is in the planning stages. A redesigned program will be announced in the fall.
If you are interested in participating in the domestic mentor program in the 2008–09 year, please enroll by June 20 at http://www2.hhh.umn.edu/forms/alumni_dp_mentor_app.htm.
